I Love Tea

Those of you that know me personally this comes as no suprise. Tonight I am drinking Chocolate Mint tea which should nor suprise you either since I love chocolate and mint together. For my weight loss support group and my weight loss blog friends it is a great alternative to a high calorie dessert. Since it is the end of National Hot tea month I though I would share a great tea source that I discovered. This summer while I was visiting my sister in Connecticut I was looking for a tea shop that we could enjoy. I didn't find one but what I did discover was a jewel, it is a shop and wholesaler that blends their own tea called Simpson and Vail. They have wonderful tea blends and a huge selection to choose from. Their teas are wonderful and so is their service. I have been to the shop twice now and have sent my sister back for more. But don't worry you can get their teas too, either online or request a catalog. Some of my favorites are:
  • Rootbeer (it is wonderful believe it or not)
  • Earl Grey Extra- if you like Earl Grey this is a must.
  • Duke Cardiff Blend- it came highly recommended by a regular customer
  • Highland Morn Blend- it is great to get your day started.
  • Chocolate Mint-great for after dinner.
  • Blue Mist- I got it in a grean tea and it is very refreshing.

There are many more that I want to try but my I can't fit anymore tea in my cupboard. Well I could find room but my husband would disagree. Let's just say I won't be running out of tea anytime soon.

Weigh-in Wednesday on Thursday

I was unable to weigh-in again on Wednesday so I went today. I wasn't sure what to expect since I have not exercised in a week due to this darn sickness that doesn't want ot leave. I was very faithful about journaling everything I ate and was right at my 35 flex points spent for the week. I steped on the scale and I was down 3.4 which suprised me. The best news is that I am now down a total of 87.2 lbs which is the lowest I have been. This is a huge milestone for me becuse I have been playing around with the same 5 lbs since July. I have set a goal to be down 90 lbs by the end of February so this helps to make that very possible.

I have to admit I had a little ego boost this week as well. As I have mentioned that I am a huge fan of The Firm TransFIRMer . I convinced my sister to buy it because she has become concerned about her backside. This is my sister that is the workout fanatic and has never has a weight problem in her life. I have to admit it has done wonders for my backside and legs.. I love it!!! I have the best legs I have ever had in my life and I still have 20 lbs to lose. Anyway it has 3 Dvd's and I usually do one called super-charged sculpting. I had recently decided I need to switch and do the other 2 more because this was not challenging me anymore. So my super fit sister calls after she does this video tellling me that it kicked her butt and she couldn't finish the workout. I felt wonderful. I know that sounds horrible but she has always run circles around me physically. I know it won't last becuse when I first did it it kicked my butt as well and after being sick probably will again, but for the brief few minutes I felt very pround of myself. I am becoming physically fit and I am getting in shape and I will reach my goal.

Healthy You Challenge

So this is my 3rd week on the Healthy You Challenge. I have been sick this week so it had been hard to gage things properly. My weigh-in was good last week and since starting this challenge I am down 2.2 lbs. I have set a goal to be at the 90lbs gone mark by the end of February. Presently, I am at 84lbs. I have had no excercise this week but hope I will be feeling up to it again soon.

Do the changes that you are making seem overwhelming to you? There are little things that you can do that will make a difference.

  • Don't deprive yourself. Do you want that chocolate? Treat yourself to a fun size candy bar instead of a full size one.

  • Switch from regular cheese to reduced fat. I can't bring myself to eat fat free and that is okay.

  • Instead of mayo on your sandwich use mustard.

  • Try new fruits and vegetables when you go to the store. You might just find one you like. I discovered I really like Ugly fruit.

  • When you go out to eat drink water. It saves you alot of money as well.

  • Switch to skim milk. If you can't go cold turkey do it work your weigh down.

  • Find a low cal or low fat snack that you like for when the munchies atacck and you must have that afternoon snack. 100 calorie packs are great and nuts are an even healthier choice.
  • Look for a new recipe to try. There are some great ones to be discovered.

Remember little things can make a big difference. Have a great week.

In the Kitchen

Meatloaf Muffins

1lb extra lean ground beef
1 box Stove Top Stuffing Mix
1 cup water
2 egg whites

Mix together and divide into 12 muffin cups that have been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.

Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.

Nutritional Information
103 calories, 1.8 g. fat, 0 g. fiber per muffin
2 pts. per muffin

This recipe is one that I make a lot. It is quick and easy and my family loves it. There are many different versions of it. Some use 2 lbs of meat for a 4 pt muffin. I also sometimes use 1 egg instead of 2 egg whites. You can also spice them up as you like. I like to use worchester sauce and onion flakes.

Time for Tea

We have been sick in my house this week. Everybody has come down with this awful cold. Both kids have had horrible coughs that they can't seem to shake so it has been a perfect week to drink lots of tea. My daughter is only 4 (soon to be 5) but she loves to drink tea. She gets it from her mother. All week long she has been asking for Candy Cane Lane tea. A friend got me hooked on it a few years ago and now it is a favorite at our house. The only problem is they only have it in stores during the holiday season. We usually stock up, although the way we have been drinking it this week it will soon be gone.
Not only is this tea wonderful tasting it had great benefits.
  • It is a green tea-green tea had loads of antioxidants in it that are good for us.
  • It contains peppermint which is an effective decongestant and also sooths sore throats.
  • It is decaffeinated so it won't keep me up all night and my daughter can have it.

I should mention when brewing green tea don't bring your water to a boil.At one time I did not like green tea but I was informed boiling water makes green tea bitter. After I stopped boiling the water I noticed A huge difference.

My Celebrity Look-Alikes

I guess I am getting old

Super Savings Saturday

So I have seen so many great deals that people have found at CVS I decided that I had to try this for myself. I have gone a couple of times took advantage of some good deals but this is my first time sharing and taking pictures. I must admit it seemed a little strange arranging my purchases to take a picture. But in so doing I realized that I truly did get some great deals.
2 bottles of Tide -1/$1.00 coupon
2 dawn soaps
2 Puff's
2 M&M's
1 Herbal Essence Shampoo - 1/$1.00 coupon
1 Soy Joy Bar
used $4/$20 and $2/$10
used $10.99 in ECB
OOP $5.63
earned $7 ECB
So this has not gone without hiccups but still the deals have been great. Even though I spent $20 in PG products somehow they did not all record so I didn't get $5 ECB's for those and my last trip one of my Soy Joy bars was marked to a lower price so I bought just one today to get my $4 ECB's I didn't get last time. I think I can get use to this. You can find other great deals like this over at Money Saving Mom. Go check them out.

Weigh-In Update

I forgot to post yesterday that I went and weighed-in and I was down .8 which is better that I thought. I turned out to be a good thing. It was just a walk-in time ,no meeting ,but there was a leader there and we had a long talk about being at a stand still for months. Basically she told me I need to stop focusing on what I use to do and what I need to do now. I also set a goal for myself that I WILL be down to the 90lb mark by the end of February. I have 26lbs to go to make my goal and I need to focus on those 26 lbs and not what I have already lost. I think that I had taken my eyes of of my goals and focused on the success that I have had. Enjoying that success is good but it has been keeping me from getting where I want to be. I can remember in 2006 when I started I had such determination. That is what I need again to get me to the my goal.

Amazon Junkie

Okay I confess, I am obsessed with How easy it has made my life. Birthdays, Christmas. All that shopping done while sitting on the couch drinking tea. You can buy everything on Amazon. I have bought diapers, Splenda, shoes, tea, coffee, games, flying monkies and the list goes on. I am always on the hunt for that good deal that is out there and I have found some great ones. I am sure when the mail lady sees an Amazon box for her route she knows there is a great chance that it must be mine. Okay I will also confess that my wish list is 9 pages long and usually the only one who shops from it is me. That is okay though because most of the time I save ideas of things I would like when I get my amazon certificates for taking surveys. Okay I confess I am a survey junkie as well but that is for a different post. So while I was looking around on Amazon today I came across an interesting book called Eat This Not That: Thousands of Simple Food Swaps That Can Save You 10, 20, 30 Pounds-or More! I so want this book. It is full of secrets that the restaurant chains and food producers don't want you to know about. Here is what Amazon says about it

And that's why EAT THIS, NOT THAT! is going to change everything. It's time to level the playing field. We're all tired of sneaky calories adding to our waistlines, and having to starve ourselves or spend hours on the treadmill trying to burn off the damage. Now-for the first time-you're in charge. With this simple illustrated guide to thousands of foods--along with the nutrition secrets that lead to fast and permanent weight loss--you'll make the smartest choice every time!

I am not so sure about fast but permanent sounds good. So I think I may just have to invest in this book.

Oh by the way, Another thing I love about Amazon. If it goes sale for cheaper within 30 days of your purchase they will refund you the difference.

Weigh-In Wednesday

Well I did not weigh-in today. I am sure it would not have looked good though. My daughter has come down with a nasty bug so I let her sleep in this morning. So tomorrow I will go and face the scale.
I wanted to share with you some websites that have helped me in my journey.

I hope that these will help you as well. A lot of my inspiration has come from other people and the success that they have had. I hope that I in return may inspire someone else. My journey is not complete by any means but I have learned a lot and come along way.

Tuesday Check In

So I started this Healthy You Challenge last week. There are a 3 things that I really want to concentrate on.

  • 1. Journal everyday. Well as usual I start well but we went away for a day and I fell of track. This week will be better. I am determined to get back in the habit.

2. Drink more water. I am doing better with this but I most days and don't quite get my six glasses.

3. Exercise. I am getting back into the routine. I feel so much better when I exercise. We went to a waterpark over the weekend an between the 2 days I think I climbed about 3000 stairs. Gotta love those tube slides.

Do you ever wonder how many calories you are burning doing certain activities? Check here and find out.

I am hoping I won't have a gain at my weigh-in tommorow as I have not made the best food choices this week. But I will except what the scale says and move on.

Time for Tea

It is one of those days that you don't even want to think about going outside. The windchill is well below zero, so it is a perfect day for a cup of tea. Of course to me everyday is a good day for tea. In case you need a excuse to make yourself a cup (or a pot) January is national hot tea month accoording to the American Food and Drink Holidays. It is your perfect opportunity to pull that tea out of the cupboard or go buy yourself a blend that you have always wanted to try. Today I am drinking Blue Lady which is my favorite tea. My friend sent it to me in the mail the other day and I was so thankful to receive it. She introduced me to it a few years ago and it became a fast favorite. It smells delightful and has a wonderful taste. This started me on a journey of trying new teas. There are so many great teas to try. So I am wondering what is your favorite tea?

Super Saving Saturday

I am very intrigued and fascinated at all the great deals that people are posting about over at Money saving Mom. It truly is amazing to me and inspires me to save more money. I still haven't gotten use to the whole taking pictures of my groceries but I may try it out sometime. Those of you that know me know that I love looking for a great deal. This week Crystal asked how much money we spent this week. Well my big purchase of the week came from Amazon. I posted it about it on Tuesday. Afterall I am an Amazon junkie. Actually we are having a survivor month and trying not to spend money on groceries this month except for the essentials. Our freezers are full and our pantry is overstocked so we are taking a little break. I have to admit though, Meijer has an extra 5% off on groceries Monday for card holders so I may be tempted to check the ad and pull out my coupons.

Weigh-In Wednesday

I had a good weigh-in today. I was down 1.4 lbs. which was more than I thought I would be so I was happy for that. My journaling was not great this week but it is getting better. I will make a good effort this week.

I saw an article in the paper this week and they gave 3 EASY ways to make over your diet.

  1. Eat a piece of fruit with lunch everyday. I think I am going to give this a try to help me get in all my fruits and veggies.
  2. Choose whole grains when you use your grain products. There are a lot of great choices out there. My family has grown to like brown rice.
  3. Decrease your meat intake. Use smaller portions or have a meatless meal one night. Try Boca Meatless Ground Burger or Morningstar Farm Crumbles in place of ground beef in your recipes. They taste great and have a fraction of the fat. We love both of them and most of the time my kids don't know they aren't eating meat.

Healthy You Challenge

So as I was lurking about today I came across a blog that inspired me. Thanks Scale Junkie. I have over the past few months lost my focus on being healthy. I have set a goal for myself that I will reach my goal weight this year but more importantly I want to be healthy. As I read through many blogs I realized that I am not alone and we all have our struggles. We are all at different points on our journey and may have different goals but we all want to me healthy. This is not a diet and it won't end when I reach my goal weight. I am in this for life. I wish the best for all of you that are on this journey with me.

In the Kitchen

First check out the new aprons some dear friends gave to my daughter and me today. We used them to make some yummy brownies. She couldn't wait to put them to use.

Next I wanted to share a great Weight Watchers recipe that I made on Friday. That are yummy and only 3 points a bar.

Butterscotch Bars

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup butter

  • 2 large egg whites

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour

  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 cup butterscotch morsels

  1. Preheat oven to 350°

  2. Beat sugars and butter with a mixer at medium speed until well blended (about 4 min). Add egg whites and vanilla, beat well. Lightly spoon flour into dry measuring cups, and level with a knife. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt, stir well with a whisk. Add flour mixture; beat at low speed just blended. Stir in morsels.

  3. Spread batter into an 8- inch square pan coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350 for 28 min. Cool bars in pan on a wire rack.

Serves 16 1 bar= 142 calories, 4.3 fat grams, .03g fiber

Frugal Friday-Saving Money

Crystal Over at Biblical Womanhood hosts "Frugal Friday". Today she asked 5 painless ways we saved $100 last year. So here are my 5 ways. Of course most of these were with the help of my husband
1. Check out movies from the library instead of renting them.
2. We bought a used mini-van instead of getting a new one. Obviously this saved us thousands of dollars and we got a great van.
3. I took lots of surveys from many different sources and used what I earned to buy Christmas gifts. I will post later the survey sites I use.
4. We switched our phone to the Internet and got the cheapest package. This saved about $20 a month.
5. I bought most gifts this year on Amazon keeping away the temptations at the mall. For 95% of my purchases I paid no shipping. I love Amazon and would consider myself an Amazon junkie.
I have to admit that it can become very addicting finding ways to pinch a few pennies.

I usually don't use the word diet but I got this in an e-mail today and though it was a good laugh. I think that because it describes the month I had last month. I am glad to be back on track. I hope you enjoy it.

author unknown

Twas the month after Christmas, and all through the house

Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I would taste
At the holiday parties had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales there arose such a number!

When I walked to the store it was less a walk than a lumber.
I remembered the marvelous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rare.
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese

And the way I'd never said, "None for me, please.
"As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt.
I said to myself, as only I can

"You can't spend another winter disguised as a man!"
So -- away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished

Till all the additional ounces have vanished.
I won't have a cookie -- not even a lick.
I'll chew only on long celery sticks.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,

I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, life's no longer a riot.

Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!

Weigh-In Wednesday

Well it was weigh-in day today. I managed to stay the same despite some poor food choices this week. As I mentioned last week I have lost a lot of weight but have been at a stand still for several months which has been very frustrating. I have decided that every Wednesday I will report on here my results for the week. There are several things I hope to work on that I have become lazy about after almost 2 years of losing weight.

I bought a new journal and everything I eat will be recorded so I can see what I have put in my mouth everyday. When I don't journal I am not successful. The past few months I have been lazy about this.

I will drink more water. I need to replace my diet soda with water.

I will exercise at least 3 times a week. I got out of a routine after a busy holiday season

I will stop mindless eating or grazing as I like to call it. Just because I am in the kitchen doesn't mean I have to put something in my mouth.

This is my focus this week. Maybe these things will help you as you aim for a healthier lifestyle.

Tasty Tea

Did you know that today is National English Toffee day? There are days for everything aren't there. So instead of a fattening dessert with lots of calories treat yourself to a tasty cup of English Toffee Tea. Doesn't that sound yummy. Just think of all the calories you are saving and the benefits you get from tea.

Back to a Routine

Time to go back to school and get back into a routine. I have to admit that this is a weakness for me so I am made a list of things that I hope to accomplish everyday.

1. Start my day in prayer.

2. Make my bed

3. Study my bible

4. Have clean dishes before going to bed

This is a small start but some very important steps to having some order in my own life and home. I have been inspired by Biblical Womanhood to Make my Home a Haven and it is my prayer that I can do that.

In my heart today

However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him" 1 Corinthians 2:9

As I was driving in the car today my daughter was listening to a CD that has Bible verse songs on it. One song included this verse. I was already admiring the wonder of God's creation around me as everything is covered with a blanket of snow and so beautiful. My heart felt so lifted knowing that God has so much more prepared for us. What a comforting thought.

Weigh-In Wednesday

So it is the new year and we are all thinking about shedding a few extra pounds. I hope that I can help you on your weight loss journey as I continue on mine. Since April 2006 I have lost 87 lbs. It has been a long process but I have learned a few things along the way. I thought I would share with you a few things that have really helped me.

1. Write it Down. Writing down what I eat helps to keep me on track and accountable. You would be amazed at what you eat during the day. I am doing Weight Watchers so it is very important I track my points everyday. When I become lazy I am not as successful.

2. Drink Water. There are so many great benefits to water that you can't go wrong. Water keeps your metabolism going as well as helps you to feel full. I aim for 6 glasses a day.

3. Exercise. I use to hate to exercise but now I actually enjoy it. Find something you like to do and start there. I love to grab my mp3 player and walk for about an hour. It is my time for myself. I also am a big fan of The Firm TransFIRMer.

4. Don't use the word diet. Remember that the changes you make in your eating are not temporary so whatever changes you make be sure you can keep them up.

5. Don't deprive yourself. If you love chocolate have some every once and awhile. If you deprive your self you will only crave it more.If it a trigger food just make it a special treat and don't bring it in your home.

6. Portions are important. Make sure that you measure and weigh your food. Invest in a food scale. You would be surprised at how much more you eat when you don't measure it.

Something new for me.

Okay so it is a new year and time to start something new. I am into saving money and looking for ways to do so. My hope is that I can share this with others. So I am starting my blog journey and I hope it goes well. I also hope to have a feature on weight loss called Weigh In Wednesdays to help keep me motivated with my weight loss. Over the past year and a half I have lost 85 lbs. but have been at a stand still lately. I hope this will be a way to keep me motivated and meet my goal
